Sanganer in Rajasthan has been printing fabric by hand since the 1500s — small, precise patterns in plant dyes such as indigo, turmeric and pomegranate on a white ground. This rug borrows both the rhythm and the cool blue colour of that tradition.
The rug is finely hand-knotted in India from bamboo yarn. The dense knotting is needed to keep the small pattern crisp, and the bamboo yarn gives a lustre and depth close to silk. The surface is cool and silky underfoot.
The pale ground makes Sanganer Duck Egg easy to place. It lifts a living room in white and beige, and is perfect in a dining room where the pattern can be seen around the table.
