Patine is a single colour, but never even. The surface shifts in broad, soft fields from lighter to darker — like a metal surface that has oxidised unevenly, or concrete that has dried at different rates. The effect comes from how the pile has been laid, not from the colour, so the rug changes as you walk around it.
The rug is handwoven in India in viscose. The viscose gives the characteristic, almost wet lustre and a very soft surface underfoot — this is a rug made for barefoot rooms rather than for the entrance. There are two colourways: a deep anthracite that verges on black, and a light grey with a silvery shimmer.
It works best where the light can play on it: in front of a window, beneath a pendant light, in a bedroom. Avoid prolonged direct sunlight, and leave deep cleaning to a professional rug cleaner — viscose is more delicate than wool. Available in two sizes.
