Medicis has no pattern in the middle — all the decoration lies in the frame. A bold, curving border in graphite grey runs around an open field of warm ivory, with flared corners and a medallion shape at the centre of each long side. The design language is drawn from Renaissance stuccowork and wrought-iron gates.
The rug is hand-tufted in India in New Zealand wool with touches of viscose and bamboo. The wool gives the dense, soft pile; the viscose and bamboo lay a faint sheen in the border that makes it stand out against the matt central field. The contrast between gloss and matt means the pattern reads clearly even from a distance.
This rug does its best work in a room where it can lie freely — in the middle of the floor in a drawing room, or beneath a round dining table where the frame can follow the shape of the room. Don't place too much furniture on top of it; the frame is the point. Available in custom sizes and custom colours.
