De Stijl is built on broad vertical fields broken by denser striped sections in indigo, sand and natural white. The composition is asymmetrical — the fields vary in width and the stripes appear irregularly — which gives the rug a rhythm closer to a woven blanket than to a classic rug pattern.
It is hand-knotted in India in wool with touches of banana silk and cotton. The banana silk sits in the light sections and gives them a soft lustre against the deeper, more matt surface of the wool; the difference in material gives the stripes different heights that are clearly felt under the hand. The indigo tone is deep without turning black.
The rug suits rooms with clean lines — a dining room with simple chairs, a living room with low furniture, or a long hallway where the stripes draw out the space. Also available in custom sizes and custom colours. Each piece is hand-knotted and therefore unique in its details.
