Cyclades lies on the floor like a surface of limestone worked by wind and weather. Ice blue and pale grey flow into one another in irregular fields, with lighter passages where the silk lies denser — a pattern without beginning or end, more landscape than ornament.
The rug is hand-knotted in India in wool, silk and cotton. The wool gives body and softness, the silk the sheen that makes the surface shift as you move through the room, and the cotton holds the weave in place. The colour is cool throughout, which makes the rug a good counterpoint in rooms with plenty of wood and warm tones.
Lay it beneath a sofa arrangement in a light room, or in a bedroom where you want coolness. Cyclades is hand-knotted, which means size and shade may vary slightly from piece to piece — that is part of the rug's character, not a departure from it.
