Boukhara starts from the grid of repeated medallions found in Central Asian rugs, but lets the pattern dissolve: the outlines are blurred, the colour bleeds into the weave, and the grid reads more as a rhythm than as ornament. The result is a rug with a clear historical precedent and an entirely contemporary expression.
It is hand-knotted in Pakistan in wool with touches of cotton. The natural irregularity of the wool gives every field its own tone — the rug is never entirely even in colour, which is exactly what brings it to life. The pile is short and dense, keeping the pattern crisp where it should be crisp.
Boukhara works best in rooms with calm walls and furniture in natural materials, where the pattern gets to be what happens. It is also available in custom sizes and custom colours to order. As a hand-knotted rug, each piece is unique, with small variations in size and shade.
