Bauhaus takes its design language straight from the interwar school of design: large circle segments, straight lines and a grid that divides the surface into fields. The arcs sweep across the rug in a movement that holds the composition together while also breaking it up — a pattern that is strict and playful at the same time.
The rug is hand-knotted in Pakistan in wool, with a polycotton backing. The wool gives the pattern depth: the coloured fields shift in tone depending on how the light falls, and the contrasts are softer than in a printed pattern. The background is a warm sand tone that ensures the stronger fields never feel harsh.
This rug can take — and wants — a simple room around it. Let it lie freely beneath a low coffee table or in a dining room with clean-lined furniture, and let the pattern do the work. The rug can also be ordered in custom sizes and custom colours through us. Each piece is hand-knotted, with the small variations that entails.
