Rockbird Velvet from G P & J Baker is built around floral motifs, drawn with the richness of detail that characterises the house's designs.

The pattern is a straight match, which keeps making up simple. Rockbird Velvet comes in 2 colourways — Indigo and Teal. Feel free to take several samples home. The same design can come across quite differently depending on the colourway.

Rockbird Velvet comes from the Signature Velvets collection. The velvet catches the light and gives the pattern a depth that a print on a flat weave cannot reach.

The fabric is 120 cm wide and woven in a cotton blend. A Martindale rating of 20 000 rubs makes it suitable for upholstery.

The character is one of classic poise, sophisticated restraint and timelessness, on a dark ground. Mix with plain fabrics for balance, and place the pattern where it will be seen.

The palette is dominated by brown — dark and deep in tone, with a warm undertone. That decides what it works against: a cool undertone wants cool neighbours, a warm one can take wood and brass.
