Behind Pimpernel is William Morris, who drew the pattern in 1876; it was registered in February of the same year. It is one of the designs that has carried Morris & Co through more than a century without ever feeling dated.

The pattern repeat is 35.5 cm, which makes it a medium repeat. The scale is well judged — the pattern reads clearly without dominating the wall. A straight pattern match makes installation straightforward. Pimpernel is available in 4 colourways — Red/Thyme, Aubergine/Olive, Bullrush/Slate and Indigo/Hemp. Feel free to take home several samples. The same drawing can turn out quite differently depending on the colourway.

Pimpernel comes from Morris 160th Anniversary.

The fabric is 139 cm wide and woven in a linen blend. A Martindale rating of 20 000 rubs makes it suitable for upholstery.

Pimpernel is at its best in living rooms and bedrooms. The look combines a classic poise, elegance and a closeness to nature, on a dark ground. Mix with plain fabrics for balance, and let the pattern sit where it will be seen.
