Trellis Wallpapers

Trellis means exactly what it says, and the pattern does precisely what the word promises: a lattice of bars or branches with plant life winding around it. It is one of the oldest motifs in the art of wallpaper, and for Morris & Co it is the very origin.

William Morris drew Trellis in November 1862 — his very first wallpaper pattern — after the rose trellises in the garden at Red House. The birds in the pattern were drawn by the architect Philip Webb, who had also designed the house. It was first printed in 1864 and has been in print ever since.

We carry eight patterns in that tradition, among them Pure Trellis and Brophy Trellis, Honeysuckle & Tulip and Seasons By May from Morris & Co, and Jali Trellis, Wisteria and Parterre from Cole & Son. Between 1 705 and 2 575 kronor per roll.

The trellis pattern has a quality that is rarely mentioned: the grid sets a calm rhythm that the foliage then breaks, and that combination can sit on all four walls without ever becoming tiresome. Upload a photo of your room in the visualisation tool and you will see the repeat at the right scale. More in the same tradition can be found in Classic.
