From his famous walnut ink illustration, Mydsommer Pickings is a direct translation of Giles' botanical drawings, depicting embroidered pomegranates and poppy heads on linen ground. The pattern is repeated to create an all-over design and encompasses a wealth of stitch techniques, layered to intensify the depth and luxury of this embroidered fabric. An apothecary of medieval delights emerges in this curling vine design, which unfolds before your eyes. Referring to historic hand embroidery, the linen base enhances the lavish stitching, which is free-flowing and organic yet dramatic, and loosely based on drawings of the Chelsea Physic Garden.
