The designer behind Pure Pimpernel is William Morris, who drew the pattern in 1876; the design was registered in February that year. It is one of the motifs that have carried Morris & Co through more than a century without ever feeling dated.
The pattern repeat is 64.0 cm, which makes it a large repeat. At that scale, the pattern becomes the main feature of the room. Allow a margin in your quantity calculation for the pattern match. The pattern is a straight match, which makes hanging easier. Pure Pimpernel comes in 2 colourways — Lightish Grey and Black Ink. Feel free to take home several samples. The same design can turn out quite differently depending on the colourway.
Pure Pimpernel comes from Pure Morris North. The Pure series keeps the patterns in white, linen and grey, letting texture rather than colour carry the look. It works where a full-colour pattern would be too much.
Each roll is 68.6 cm wide and 10.05 metres long, printed on paper. The weight is 144 g/m².
Pure Pimpernel is at its best in living rooms and hallways. The look has a classic poise, elegance and timelessness, with a very light overall tone. Pair it with plain textiles and wood in a natural tone, and the pattern has room to come into its own.
