The designer behind Meadow Sweet is John Henry Dearle, who drew the pattern in 1904. It is one of the motifs that have carried Morris & Co through more than a century without ever feeling dated. John Henry Dearle joined Morris & Co as an apprentice, learned the craft in the workshop and became the company's chief designer after William Morris's death in 1896.
The pattern repeat is 61.5 cm, which makes it a large repeat. At that scale, the pattern becomes the main feature of the room. Allow a margin in your quantity calculation for the pattern match. A straight match makes hanging straightforward. Meadow Sweet comes in 5 colourways — Rose/Olive, Gold/Slate, Blush and Mineral Blue, among others. Feel free to take home several samples. The same design can turn out quite differently depending on the colourway.
