Snakeshead was drawn by William Morris in 1876. The pattern is one of the designs that have stayed in production ever since, and it is not hard to see why — Morris worked from plants he had in front of him, not from decorative schemes.
The pattern repeat is 34.3 cm, which makes it a medium-sized repeat. It is large enough to be noticed and small enough not to take over. The pattern is a straight match, which makes hanging easier. Snakeshead comes in 6 colourways — Stone/Cream, Charcoal/Spice, Forest/Thyme and Gold/Linen, among others. The colourways differ more than you might expect; choose according to the light in the room.
The pattern belongs to the Morris Wallpaper Compilation collection.
Each roll is 68.6 cm wide and 10.05 metres long, printed on paper. The weight is 153 g/m².
We recommend Snakeshead for living rooms and hallways. The look has a classic poise, elegance and closeness to nature, with a dark overall tone. It works both across a whole room and on a single wall — the latter is well worth trying in smaller spaces.
We always recommend a sample first. Look at it in both daylight and lamplight, as the tones shift between the two.
