Saruk carpets come from the city of Arak as well as the village of Saruk and nearby towns. The early success of Saruk was largely due to the American market. From the 1910s through the 1950s, the “American Saruk”, also called “Painted Saruk”, was produced. The floral patterns and designs of Saruk carpets attracted American traders. However, to perfect the carpets, Americans began to bleach and dye imported carpets to get the color they wanted. Saruk carpets are still produced using the same early methods they always used, except for the bleaching process that the Americans introduced. Known for their exceptional quality and ability to last through decades, Saruk carpets have become a best-seller among Persian carpets. They are knotted from high-quality cotton and with a Persian knot.
Characteristic of Saruk carpets is the tomato red color mixed with purple and blue floral patterns. The finest Saruk carpets come from the small town of Ghias.
