Gandhar carpets often have red as the main color and the basic pattern is unique to each carpet. It is one of the most popular carpets because it is neutral and has calm patterns. The patterns of the carpets are good examples of skilled nomadic craftsmanship. The wool is usually of the highest quality and after a few years of use it becomes like silk. Some old Afghan carpets, where the colors have been softened, are particularly sought after in the West.
