Beluch rugs feature a wide variety of geometric motifs, such as octagons, cones, eight-sided stars, and various types of diamonds. Other patterns, such as the Herati pattern and Uzbek-inspired motifs, are found in newer Beluch rugs.
They are knotted along the Iran-Pakistan border and in Afghanistan. Persian Baluchi carpets are very detailed and very finely knotted. The most important and original Baluchi carpets are made in the Khorassan province of Iran. The carpets are also called Mashad Baluch and are usually more finely knotted and of better quality than those from Afghanistan and Pakistan. The Baluchi are a large nomadic tribe living in southeastern Iran. They speak a Persian dialect called Baluchi and are Sunni Muslims.
