Varamin used to be outside Tehran, but as the capital grew, the village moved more and more within its borders. As a result, the standard of living has also risen, meaning that carpet weaving is no longer profitable. Young people are moving to the city and more opportunities have opened up, which in turn means that carpet production in the village is dying.
Varamin rugs feature geometric patterns with repeated medallions, especially on the gallery rugs. They are made by tribes that either live in Varamin or pass through the village.
The quality is very good and the rugs come in several different sizes, with the majority being "medium size" from 120x200cm up to 250x350cm.
The colors are dark brown and dark red on khaki or dark blue backgrounds. The wool is soft, thin and fine while the warp is woven from cotton. The carpets that are knotted in the village and in the studios use the Persian knot while the nomads use the Turkish knot.
Estimated Delivery Time: approx. 1-2 weeks.
