During the reign of Shah Abbas (1588-1629), almost all forms of art in the Esfahan province developed immensely, especially hand-knotted silk carpets with flower vines and lanceolate leaves in symmetrical patterns.
The finest Esfahan carpets are knotted by experienced professional carpet knotters in studios. The material is usually of the highest quality with detailed patterns. The number of knots varies from 500,000-1,200,000 knots per square meter.
